About the Teacher
Vrajabasi Das was born in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa, during the tumultuous 70s. South Africa was then still under the grip of apartheid.
He met devotees and later joined the Johannesburg temple in the 1990s. He was initiated by HH Bhakti Charu Swami who accepted him as his disciple and gave him the first and second initiations.
Most of his early ministries were worshiping the Deity, distributing books and preaching in the college. He, along with his sankirtan partner, initiated and supervised five different university programs across Cape Town. This successful preaching spell resulted in him and his team attracting many souls to Krishna consciousness.
In 2007, he became involved as a teacher at Bhaktivedanta College of Education & Culture (BCEC) and opened a satellite branch at ISKCON San Diego where he served as manager. He was also responsible for overseeing the worship of Sri Sri Radha-Giridhari, Sri Jagannath and Gaura-Nitai. During this time he also conducted extensive education and training programs for the San Diego devotee community and the general public with multiple Bhakti Shastri graduates. He was also a guest teacher at Krishna's House (Iskcon Gainesville, Florida, USA).
After spending considerable time in the United States, he decided to return to South Africa at the request of some senior devotees. He spent his first year traveling around the country distributing thousands of books.
In 2013, he moved to Port Elizabeth at the request of the temple president HG Svetadvipa Prabhu. He spent the next year helping him successfully establish a university program at NMMU, a weekly public program, as well as distributing thousands of books.
He then moved to the Eastern Cape, East London, where he started preaching programs - a preaching center, three different university programs, the Food for Life program, a new congregation as well as the distribution of thousands of books over the next three years.
Then, at the request of the South African leadership, he assumed the position of president of the ISKCON temple in Cape Town where he spent the next few years. After that, he took over as temple president at Iskcon Sandton in Johannesburg and continued the preaching mission there for the next few years.
In November 2022, he stepped down from all of his management roles and is now solely focused on teaching and outreach. He is also the Managing Director for the Bhaktivedanta Foundation, a non-profit corporation.
He also spent many years as head of ISKCON South African Ministry of Education where he oversaw several successful educational programs including one conducted by HH Bhakti Caitanya Swami in 2020 where over 500 students graduated with Bhakti Shastri degrees.
Course Overview
Course Description:
Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the result of the direct experience of Śukadeva Gosvāmī, who revealed it to us so that we could get out of the material world. There are ten themes of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam beginning with sarga or creation, and ending with āśraya, shelter. But our previous Gaudiya Vaiṣṇava teachers explain that the Bhāgavatam has only one topic, the āśraya - the Supreme Personality of Godhead - a cowherd boy eternally engrossed in amorous pastimes with His devotees. The other nine topics are there to explain the main topic.
In this online course with HG Vrajabasi Das - a fun contemporary presentation of this great literature - you will go through a systematic overview of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam based on its ten topics. The topics will be explained from a modern perspective, bridging the gap between where you are in your daily life and the Bhāgavatam as the ultimate literature and the Supreme Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa Himself.
1. Sarga: universal creation by the Supreme Lord
2. Visarga: secondary creation by Lord Brahma
3. Sthanam: positioning of living entities in various planetary systems
4. Posanam: the Lord’s protection for the devotees
5. Uti: inclination to act
6. Manvantara: the reign of Manus
7. Isanukatha: the topics of the Lord’s various incarnations and His devotees
8. Nirodha: annihilation
9. Mukti: liberation
10. Asraya: the supreme shelter, Lord Krsna
The topics will be explained from a modern perspective, bridging the gap between where you are in your daily life and the Bhāgavatam as the ultimate literature and the Supreme Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa Himself.
